Ok so first, I didn't know where to put this but oh well, anyway, here goes.

So RabidGoldFishJ, who is the King if you don't know, asked me to create a job system for the nation, based off the one used in Porto Mare. This is a way that players actually benefit more than going at it alone, as one player produces more stone if that's all they do, than a player who does it all. This system will be completely optional for towns but if you wish to participate, reply with your in game name and town name.

    The jobs are:
    • Forester- collects wood for the town
    • Farmer- tends the farm and delivers crops to the baker
    • Baker- makes food for the town
    • Miner- collects stones and ores for the town and delivers to the Smith
    • Smith- metal worker and stone smelter. Supplies town with tools and armour, fixes tools as well
    • Rancher- tends to the animals in the town, shears sheep, milks cows and breeds and kills animals
    • Fisherman/woman- fishes for the town and delivers to the baker
    • Looter- Goes out and kills mobs for the loot. Delivers materials to the correct person
    • Alchemist- Creates potions for the town
Of these jobs, Alchemist's and Looters are the last positions you want to fill as they are the least necessary. First jobs to fill are miners and farmers and foresters, then ranchers, fishermen, bakers and smiths. You will want more miners than any other job, but not too many or you will strip the area around your town of resources quickly. Before employing an alchemist, make sure they are skilled at their job.
Before giving a player a job, make sure they are active for at least 3 days after they join the server, and then again spend 3 days as a member of the town.
For an example of how a smithy will work, with equipment for the town, the one in the outskirts of Porto Mare is a good example if I say so myself. Alchemists and Bakers could also work that way.
In towns, mayors could a have a small hall where residents can place signs to say what they need, miners can ask for picks, bakers for wheat etc. Bakers, Smiths and Alchemists can have a chest with hoppers attached as a mail box for materials.
On a national level, my town Valyria will be the hub. I have a guild hall to the north of the town spawn, which has been named as such so is easy to find. Mayors that choose to participate will have a slot and can place signs there to say what materials their town is in need of, and other mayors can then deliver it to them. This will lead to a richer national economy with those that participate benefiting. Towns with only one or two residents can also participate on the national level.
This system is a prototype, so we will use this thread as a way of communicating what works, what doesn't and improvements I might make in the future.
I'm sorry it was so long, but it had to be. So, if you wish to participate, comment your in game name and your town name :) thank you for reading :)

am I the only one that has read this. Good idea but will it make the game less fun for some and who will reinforce the system to make sure people arent taking more and not giving enough.

As with everything, no system will stop players from doing whatever and collecting whatever they want.

For this system to work it needs people to actively cooperate in it. kinda like if they were RPing. So in reality, not everyone are fit for this system... or any system of this kind for that matter.

Which is why this system is entirely optional and voluntary. Only those interested in participating are encouraged to do so.

As Rabid says, its voluntary, if the majority of a town participates, then they can be allowed access to their towns benefits, but those who dont want to wont get access.

Now I could bring some advanced economics into this but there will always be the free rider problem, people who get benefits when other people pay for something or work for something. The ways to get around it are to: provide it for free or make it as hard as possible for people to free ride, as there is no way in hell I want to give it all out for free, then I suggest we make it as hard as possible.

But how do we do that? I need suggestions for this
