First of all, this is in the Gaming thread, because I thought it was related to gaming. :p

Hello guys. ToonLink here. As you may have heard, I won't be able to play much anymore (or at all) :( due to my situation. I really want to still hang out with you guys, so I have been looking for laptops with good specs and a cheap price. I found a great one, but it has been discontinued. So, I found another one, but it is a bit expensive. Lemme give you the details.

I found the Lenovo Y410p. This are great laptop for gaming and school work. I will post the link to it, so you can see the specs and what it has to offer. Price: $700's

If I end up getting the Lenovo, I won't be able to play Minecraft, or anything, for the whole school-year, so I'm asking you guys a favor. Find a laptop with similar specs (with an SSD, since it has one) or exactly the same specs, but a little cheaper. Please, DO NOT post anything that is HP, Dell or Acer. I'd prefer to buy from Asus, MSi, or Lenovo.

    Thank you for reading. -ToonLink

What you are looking for in a Laptop that will play games is video card, and air flow.

You do not have to get a "gaming" laptop to play games. Most laptops labeled as gaming laptops are no better than normal ones, and usually have a higher pricetag for no reason.

First you have to decide what you want to play. Do you want to play super high end games with the highest grapchis settings, or are you looking for something that will just adequately play most games.

A laptop will integrated graphics will always bee cheaper than one that offers a video card. One with a video card will handle games better than integrated graphics, but you can usually save a lot of money just be going for integrated graphics.

If you are going for cheaper with integrated graphics, than you want no less than intelHD 4000. The 3000 model wont allow you to play games at decent settings, but the 4000 should be just fine for most games on medium settings.

About the SSD. An SSD drive is not necessary, and will only ramp up the total price of the machine.

Also curious about the brand loyalty. Laptops are laptops, and all brands suck when it comes to laptops.. just how the industry works.

It doesn't look bad. In fact, I think my dad owns this one, and he can play LOTRO on it. I suppose I can get this one if I need to. I'd still like the SSD. It just makes the interface run a lot more smoother, which is one of the things I like about laptops with SSD's. Thank you for your suggestion ntall. :)

I see the current one you are looking at is $700. So I assume your price range is $700.

Here is an Asus i7cpu, with an nVidia GeForce GT 540 vid card, and 6gb ram. $650

Even without an SSD drive that laptop will feel just like a powerful desktop. You really do not need SSD. The speed increase you are going to get is not really going to be noticeable unless the rest of your PC is really good.

SSD is best in gaming desktop setups that run multiple hard drives. One for the OS, and the other for programs/games. Its not something that will really improve a laptop unless its one amazing laptop. But that would probably be in the $1200 - $3000 range.

Alright, I see your point. The laptop you suggested had some good specs, and has some things I wanted that the Lenovo didn't have. Thank you, I will most likely get this one.

I purchased my laptop, and tons of computer parts from that company. So I can vouch for them. If you have an issue its very easy to get it sorted with their customer support. I've only had an issue once with them, and it was solved very fast.

I find this interesting because I have a $1500 Samsung laptop with good specs that I use for games but it only usually copes at lowest settings. Not sure if it's because it uses integrated graphics or because there's so much installed on it or what it is really. The price tag is probably because of the whole nobody-lives-in-this-country thing.

I am also looking for a better gaming computer to use. More focused around like a PC instead of a laptop because of the bang for your buck. Anyone got any suggestions to either building one or just buying one already put together?
