These skills/professions are still being coded, and can change based on user feedback. That is why its important to give constructive feedback, not just "I don't like it", or, "Its great!". That doesn't help anyone.

I will update what these skills as new features get coded.

    • Lumberjack:
      • Players start with a lower chance to get wood from trees, but will still receive a plank on failure.
      • As players level up they will increase their chance of success, and learn how to craft custom items.
      • Custom Recipes:
        • Iron Lumberjack's Axe
          • IronBlock|IronBlock|Air
          • IronBlock|Stick|Air
          • Air|Stick|Air
        • Gold Lumberjack's Axe
          • GoldBlock|GoldBlock|Air
          • GoldBlock|Stick|Air
          • Air|Stick|Air
        • Diamond Lumberjack's Axe
          • DiamondBlock|DiamondBlock|Air
          • DiamondBlock|Stick|Air
          • Air|Stick|Air
        • Lumberjack axes have a % chance to produce double drops.
        • The double drop chance crafted into the item will be based on the players level. The higher your level in lumberjack the higher double drop chance you can craft into axes.
        • High level crafted axes can be used by anyone regardless of lumberjack level, all bonus's crafted into the item will still work.
    • Miner:
      • Players start with a lower chance to get stone, coal, iron, gold, diamond, and netherrack.
      • As players level up they will increase their chance of success.
      • When failing to produce a diamond, or gold, you will receive a shard. You can combine 9 shards in a crafting bench to create a whole diamond, or gold ingot.
      • Custom Recipes:
        • Coming soon.

Regarding one of the mining mechanics which are the shards. when you combine 9 shards of diamond, i noticed you get a different type of "diamond" item that cannot be stacked with regular diamonds. If you hover your mouse on both a shard made diamond and a regular diamond, you'll notice a difference, the shard made diamond is on italics.

When did you try this? I wrote code to fix this last night. You tried this today and still got this result?

I tried it yesterday, i thought it would be relevant because i still have the other diamond on my inventory.

    That is what I thought.

If you craft another one, it should give you a normal diamond. There is still a bug where if you try to craft multiple at once using shift that it will produce the non stackable diamond. If that does happen, the diamond can still be used in any recipes that diamonds can be used in. You could make it into a block and convert back to diamonds to get stack able diamonds.

the skill system seems out of place to me. It puts up a barrier that dose not need to be there and is making (In my opinion) the gathering aspect of the game dole and grindy. I personally don't find it enjoyable to finally after mining for who knows how long, find a diamond only to mine it whit my Iron pickaxe and then get nothing. In the end it kind of forces you to not go dig for what you need but instead go and mine up the whole underground just to get mining up to a point where you can actually use the tools that is there as a barrier in the first place. BUT that's just my thoughts on this and I I strongly suggest others to share there thoughts.

After reading this post I decided to also share my opinion.

I figured I give this plugin a try, so I set out to a big forest biome and started chopping trees to get my Lumberjack skill up.
After a few trees I noticed I started getting planks instead of logs, which didn't really make sense to me. I continued choppin' and got about 2-3 blocks a tree (instead of 5), I wasn't too bothered by this and continued on. The leveling of my Lumberjack skill went pretty fast and the blocks I gained went up to 3-4 blocks (from a 5 block tree), only the 3-4 blocks I got weren't all logs, yet many of them were planks.

I stopped gathering wood after 40 minutes to check my inventory, I had about 4 stacks of Oak logs, 61 Birch logs , 1/2 stacks of Oak planks and half a stack of Birch planks. After seeing how less wood I actually got from chopping down most of the forest biome I felt really demotivated and decided to call it a day.

Like Sepo said, in order for me to efficiently chop down a tree I first need to clear multiple forest biomes and this costs a lot of time. I am used to grinding for items and I don't mind making the game harder, but I feel like this plugin would rather ruin the fun of playing Minecraft for many. (Especially for those who want to build and just gather resources quick.)

Back in 2013 when I started playing on this server there was a Plugin that was called (If my memory does not fail me) McMMO. Which had skills that you could level up but it did not remove your ability to gather blocks. It rather gave a few minor bonuses which felt fun to use. Perhaps bringing that plugin back can be a nice addition to the server. (Or something similar)

    Something RabidGoldFishJ found.

It seems like you don't get experience points for these skills while you are inside a town area. for example chopping wood inside a town does not yield any exp or at least it doesn't display any increase.

I can confirm this. It was working just yesterday, giving XP in town. But now it's not.

It seems like I do not get vanilla exp (levels to enchant) from coal nor redstone, I still however get exp from lapis.

I don't know how to edit my older post but I seem to be getting exp again from coal, not sure if it has something to do with that I now use iron pickaxe instead of diamond or maybe something was changed.

This is due to a bug we found last night. I hope to find a better way to handle this issue, but currently profession exp gain in town is disabled. The reason is, the current code without this limitation put in place allows anyone to edit these blocks inside world guard regions and towns they are not members of.

So until we can figure out a better way to handle this, exp gain is off in towns. I am going to spend some time today figuring this out. Last night after 12 hours of coding my brain didn't want to work anymore.

Thank you for all the work you put into the server, Ntall. It's top notch.

I, for one, am pleased with this feature. Not only does it give you something to work towards while you do the pre-requisite resource gathering for basic building and crafting, but it slows down gathering a bit, meaning you don't have some much at first and you have to work for it.

This will also help stimulate the economy, i hope.

I look foreward to see more of this feature in action.

You don't seem to increase your mining level from mining Granite, Andesite and Diorite.

it is really annoying to have the percentage pop up in front of your computer screen every 5 seconds, with all the shards, Nuggets, smelted pieces, and ore your inventory fills up really quick
